Banff National Park was Canada's first national park, established in 1885 as Rocky Mountains Park. Located in Alberta's Rocky Mountains, this park draws more than four million people per year, making it one of the most visited mountain areas in the world. It is an incredibly vast mountain park that is home to anything mountain related that you could possibly think of. Popular destinations include the Banff townsite, Moraine Lake, and Lake Louise, but there is much beyond this that lies untouched. While Banff may have the most popular destinations, it also has some of the most remote landscapes that few ever get the privilege of visiting.
The main artery of Banff National Park is the Trans Canada Highway, or Highway 1. This road provides access to the southern areas of the park along with Highway 1A. To the north, the Icefields Parkway leads into Jasper National Park, and is one of the most incredible drives on the planet.
